JAMEER GETTING THE POINT?

We need a productive Jameer Nelson in the playoffs...Sunday, he produced big time!

In Sunday's game one victory over Toronto, Jameer Nelson canned a three point shot on the very first possession of the game. Jameer set the tone for that 114-100 win. He would say after the game: "It's the playoffs. It's not the regular season any more. I have to step up my game all the way around."

That performance was the best all around game I have seen from Jameer Nelson in a Magic uniform!

It was obvious that Jameer heard the "experts" decry that he was going to be chewed up and spit out by Toronto's tandem of TJ Ford and Jose Calderon in this series. But Jameer played game one with a chip on his shoulder. Right from the opening tap, he was the one who kept Ford on his heels. He blew by Ford countless times. He kept the cat quick Ford in front of him defensively. Jameer played the role of floor general to perfection, finishing with 24 points and seven assists. He hit three's...He hit his free throws. Heck, the little guy even blocked a shot.

Over the last few seasons, Jameer has taken some heat from locals who have a hard time envisioning Jameer as the point guard of our present and future. He's too small...he's too invisible on the defensive end...he turns the ball over too much...he's not a true point guard...he's not this and not that.

Heck, people have been doubting Jameer Nelson ever since he started playing with the big boys on the Chester, PA. playgrounds. He's accustomed to criticism. He thrives off of it as well. That was evident in game one.

Let's all keep in mind that Jameer is still learning how to play the point guard spot, which is, by far, the toughest position to learn at the NBA level. Let's also keep in mind that he comes from a shoot-first background (see his career at St. Joe's). This year has been a transitional year for Jameer because, not only is he continuing to learn his position, he's gone from being one of the main offensive options last year to a guy who's become an offensive afterthought due to the emergence of our Big Three.

Can Jameer keep continue to step up? If he does, this team is gonna be very difficult to beat!
