Public opinion on health care

Boy are people predictable.

Quinnipiac University has a new survey, and you can see all of the results here. I thought I would give you some highlights and point out just how stupid the American public at large is, and how easily we can predict their actions.

the first piece of information that will not stun you is that among people making less than 50 thousand dollars a year, 40 percent believe they should pay no more in taxes to get health care. News flash: people making less than 50 thousand dollars often do not pay income taxes. In fact 43 percent of America either does not pay, or gets money paid to them by the Government (the cutoff is somewhere near 32 thousand depending on a person's situation). Among that same group, 61% believes it's the government's responsibility to make sure every American has health care.

Pretty much no one wants to pay more than a thousand dollars a year to make health care better in the US, and only 30 percent are willing to pay 500. Where should all this money to fix health care come from? If you guessed "the evil rich" or the "evil wealty corporations" give yourself a gold star for the day. 55 percent say those making more than 250 grand a year should pay, and 73 percent say businesses should be required to provide health care for employees.

The only bright spot in America's caving is that the phrase "government run healthcare" still makes us cringe. Soon it will be a way of life.

What others are saying

  • Health Cares demise because of Attorney Advertising?
It would be interesting to see the stats on the # of law suits filed against the doctors, hospitals and even nursing homes since Attorney's were allowed to advertise on TV and radio. It seems that the Lawyers just like to plant little ideas in your head to sue. Like it's the way to acquire big bucks, for both parties. You may as well take a look at the # of other law suits filed against privately owned companies and corporatins while you're at it. It used to be that neighbors didn't even sue neighbors because their kid fell out of the tree, at the neighbors! I was taught that Attorneys were suppose to be highly respected for their knowledge of the laws, not to find loop holes in the laws... all in the name of greed. Gee, do you suppose that has something to do with the state of health care and our economy today??
