Sex Sells at the Olympic Games
There's something about men and women with well-defined abdominals and very little clothing. And that something is bigger revenue!
There's something irresistible about men and women with well-defined abdominals and very little clothing. The Olympics beach volleyball competition is a prime example. The female suits are getting much smaller, and the cheerleaders wear some pretty revealing outfits. With the sexy bodies, sand and sun, it's no wonder that event is pulling in the large crowds. For 2008, TV revenue is more than US$1.7 billion -- quadruple the amount paid for global TV rights to the 1988 Seoul Games and nearly double what was paid for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
That explosive growth in revenue tracks the International Olympic Committee's decision to prune back boring events and add more exciting, fun, sexy and photogenic ones.
