The cartoon refers to Travis the Chimp, with the caption "They'll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill."
New York Post cartoonist Sean Delonas's latest cartoon has Al Sharpton outraged. Sharpton called the cartoon offensive and divisive and "troubling at best".

The cartoon in today's Post by Sean Delonas shows a dead chimp and two police officers, one with a smoking gun. The caption reads, "They'll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill."

The cartoon refers to Travis the chimp, who was shot to death by police in Connecticut on Monday after it mauled a friend of its owner.

What others are saying

  • Age of Dead Quotes & Analogies
Umm... I thought this had to do more with "Put 1000 monkey's in a room with typewriters and they'd eventually come up with the works of William Shakespeare" more than it had to do with Obama.

But then again, what else would I expect from an illiterate and moronic society?
  • Quick to Racism
You've got to be kidding! Presidents don't write bills, in fact Congress doesn't either, they are written by lawyers of the Corporations that stand to benefit after sending their lobbyists to grease the pockets of our so-called Representatives!

Sharpton is a joke and cares nothing about his people.

Criticize Obama and the media is quick you are called a racist!
  • Another Sharpton Show
If the cartoonist is single out for drawing the clip then Sharpton should be single out too for referring to that monkey as the President, no one else notice it first, but him. I feel is nothing more, but Sharpton getting another chance to show his teeth.
  • Get a grip
Not racist. The cartoonist is simply tying two big stories together to make a point. This is freedom of speech and I loudly applaud. Enough with the exaggerated outrage. As we all watch our freedoms being attacked I am glad to see "Speech" is still protected. We need to watch closely those who scream the loudest in protest. I see and hear crap that I disagree with every 5 minutes but I dont go around trying to shut them up or spouting off like a child.
  • Short-sighted
While I don't necessarily think the cartoonist meant for this to be racist, I do think it would be naive to say that he didn't know the implied racism comparing an African American to a monkey. For instance, I called George W. a monkey all the time, but there's no double meaning to that...
  • Chimp looks like Obama
He kind of looks like obama....maybe thats why they thought it was him lol. If this was intended to be a rasict remark I dought the Washington Post was aiming at that I was pretty sure they were brown nosing him. Also our new Attorney general called us cowards what does he have to say to that then.
  • Ape Cartoon
This is what you call freedom of speech and what Al Sharpton is saying is very communist. I am sure he would like to personally censor every piece the media puts out. Come on, isn't the media in general already left enough as it is? Personally, I find the picture a little gruesome but it most certainly depicts what is happening in Washington these days.
  • Cartoon
I guess you can look at it from the stand point that "Even a caveman can" write the bill or our House & Sentate are a bunch of monkeys not paying attention to what their doing & taking advantage of the American public. I don't see it aimed at any one person though nor racist in that nature. I can see that it would be a little tasteless for the lady that was injured.
  • Get Real - this is completely racist.
anyone who thinks differently - "anonymous" and "Ray" are showing their true colors. way out of line, completely disrepectful, and absurd.
  • why out of line
"out of line" why do you think it is out of line. I interpret the cartoon as depicting the entire process and a bunch of monkeys in Washington mauling the American people without regard. Not specifically aimed at anyone in particular.
  • Cartoon
Obama didn't technically "write" the stimulus bill so why does Al Sharpton think the monkey represents Obama? Who is being divisive here?
  • out of line
I SURE DIDNT VOTE FOR OBAMA --BUT THIS IS WAY OVER THE LINE
