Update: Shannon Burke Back in Jail for Violating Terms of Pre-Trial Release

Orlando radio talk show host Edward Shannon Burke was arrested on April 30, 2009 accused of shooting his dog and his wife at his home near Altamonte Springs. He bonded out of jail on Tuesday afternoon.

In a sworn court statement, Catherine Burke said her husband was upset that evening because his dog had dug out of their yard. She said her husband picked up her spaniel named Charlotte "and threw her harshly to the ground." Then he walked to a closet and got his gun and said: "I'm going to shoot the dog in the head and you're going to watch."

She says he pointed the gun at the dog and fired, but nothing happened. He then changed ammo clips, put the dog on the bed and fired a shot. "Charlotte yelped in agony and directly after that I felt a burning pain on the side of my head," she said.

She is seeking a domestic violence injunction for protection from Mr. Burke.

Burke is being charged in two counties. In Orange, for a Violation of Probation charge stemming from a prior alcohol-related reckless driving charge. In Seminole, Burke is accused of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and animal cruelty.

Burke's employment has been terminated by Clear Channel Radio. He was the midday host heard weekdays on Real Radio 104.1 FM.
