FL transportation lobbyist wants federal cash for roads, rails
Congress will try to have an economic recovery bill ready for President-elect Barack Obama as soon as he's sworn in January 20th. One Tallahassee insider already has Florida's money spent. Florida transportation lobbyist Doug Callaway is thrilled that some of that money will be earmarked for improving state infrastructure.
"If we're talking about getting money to the private sector to help stimulate Florida's economy, transportation is the safest bet going," he says.
According to Callaway, more jobs in planning and building will be the immediate perk, along with the long-term benefit of improved efficiency and safety of roads and other methods of travel.
Callaway says he's ready to put the money to work if the bill is passed as soon as Obama takes office. "Here in Florida alone we have over 6 billion dollars...of projects ready to go."
