Lawmakers finish plugging budget holes
Education in Central Florida will take a huge hit.

Nearly $2.5 billion was sliced from the budget, with the most pain coming in education. Democrats like Alan Williams are steamed.
"A lot of programs that are important and vital to our communities will either be eliminated or will go unfunded, and now we have to come back and find a way to find those in the regular session.
They wanted tax hikes on cigarettes and maybe more, but David Rivera (pictured) and the Republicans refused.
"We did not raise taxes. We cut existing expenditures, and I think everybody can be proud of that."
I somehow doubt the Orange County School Board will be proud to cut $24 million from its spending this year. It's almost $9 million in Seminole. To close the budget gap, lawmakers raided trust funds and the tobacco settlement. They'll also increase fines on both speeding and red light running.
