Orange County School Board creates transportation study committee
Orange County School Board members voted to create a new transportation study committee Tuesday night.
Committee members will be chosen by school board members. Vice Chair Rick Roach asked that school start times also be addressed. The committee was proposed by newly elected member Vicky Bell who, along with Roach, voted to reverse the swap in school start times back to its normal schedule. The reverse will happen in August. So far, the swap has saved the district $713,000.
Bell says she's hoping that good ideas will come from the public and that eventually the district will solve its budget-eating transportation costs. Orange County Schools are facing a $102 million shortfall for next year's budget.
Board members hope to have a report from the committee by March 31st.
