Fundraisers will be held this weekend to benefit Sheriff El Shami, the Orange City police officer who lost an eye and received shrapnel wounds to his face when a deranged man shot at his cruiser with a high powered rifle.

Jamie Cox is a close friend.

"He's such a sweet guy," Cox said. "I honestly can't say anything bad about him."

Cox said El Shami is in good spirits, but she still wanted to help.

"He's got enough trial and tribulations going on than to have to worry about money issues," she said.

There's a party Friday afternoon at Orange City Memorial Park and a car wash Saturday(El Shami's birthday) at John's Appliance in Orange City.

April 25th there will be a poker run to benefit El Shami.

Cox says anyone who wants to attend an event or help can reach her at (386)216-8213.
