Radio host still behind bars for shooting wife, dog
A Central Florida radio talk show host remains in the Seminole County jail after spending the entire weekend behind bars, for allegedly shooting his wife and dog.
The Seminole County Sheriff's Office says 43-year-old Shannon Burke (pictured), host of the Shannon Burke Show on WTKS, was arguing with his wife over the care of his dog around 11pm at their home at 135 Hilltop Place in Altamonte Springs. During the argument, Burke grabbed his wife's dog and threatened to harm it.
Deputies say Burke shot the dog in the leg with a .40 caliber handgun, and the bullet passed through the pet before striking his wife in the head. 48-year-old Catherine Burke was transported to ORMC with non-life threatening injuries, and the dog was expected to survive after being taken to an emergency clinic.
In the 9-1-1 call, Burke told dispatchers he accidentally shot his wife while playing with the gun. He can also be heard whispering to his wife not to call anyone as he waited for dispatchers to send an ambulance.
Burke has been charged with aggravated battery using a deadly weapon, and animal cruelty. During his first court appearance Friday, a Seminole County judge set bail at $10,000. But a previous case kept him in the jail all weekend.
Orange County issued a warrant for Burke's arrest Friday, in relation to a wreckless driving and alcohol charge. The warrant requests no bond.
If Burke eventually does get out of jail, the judge ordered him not to have any contact with his wife.

Burt Wilson has been a valuable part of the Monsters in the Morning show after conquering his personal demons and was arbitrarily tossed to the curb. The fact that Burke may actual continue to receive HIS paycheck irritates me.
Though my radio usually goes off between 11:00 and 3:00, I hope Shannon gets whatever help he needs. However, I'm thinking Clear Channel may have a small reserve of cash soon that would enable them to bring back Team Players in lieu of Loose Cannons. - I think that none of us actually know what happened so instead of speculations as if we would ever know how about giving the guy a break, I'm sure it was an accident and I pray that things work out for the best!
