Altamonte Springs woman hopes to collect $1 million in pennies for charity

Ruby Homayssi is making a difference one penny at a time.
She does this by collecting pennies for a project she created almost a year ago - "Your 2 Cents Count."
"All I do is deposit the pennies that people give me, and when I get to a certain point, then I give them out so that people would understand that pennies do add up," Homayssi says.
The former naval officer has raised over $1,200 in pennies for six local organizations in ten months. She plans to do it again, but this time her goal is to raise $1 million more in pennies.
"I'm going to work at it. I'm not going to say it can't be done," she says. "That's my goal and I am going to do it."
The $1,200 went to New Hope for Kids, Rotary Foundation, Seminole Cultural Arts Council, Festival of Orchestras, Holocaust Center, and Femmes de Coeur.
Once she reaches her goal, Homayssi plans to give the $1 million in pennies to those same six charities, plus PACE Center for Girls.
