Homeowner and suspect both had criminal records in Altamonte Springs attempted home invasion
Twenty one year-old Donald Salaam was no stranger to Seminole County law enforcement. With a record that included charges for drugs and evasion - kicking down the door of 50 year-old Clayton Montford's Altamonte Springs home Friday morning would be his last mistake.
Montford, who has served prison time and is a convicted felon, shot and killed Salaam.Lt. James Clark with the Seminole County Sheriff's office says the two men do not seem to have any connection, other than their criminal records. At this point, Montford will not face any charges for the shooting - but the case is being turned over to the state attorney's office.
Clark says the only issue will be Montford's gun - he may face a charge of possession of a fire arm by a convicted felon.
"When you have someone kicking down your front door, you're going to do what you got to do to protect your family," Clark said. "We understand that part of it. We just want to make sure he didn't act inappropriately and have a weapon that he shouldn't have."
