Lightning strike causes house fire near Oviedo
A lightning strike caused a massive house fire Tuesday night at a home near Oviedo.
When Seminole County firefighters arrived at the two-story home on Radison Place near Alafaya Trail, flames were shooting through the roof. The fire quickly spread to the attic. A woman, who was inside the home with four of her family members when the fire started, told Eyewitness News Channel 9, she heard an explosion.
"I just saw lightning hit on the back porch," she said. "I smelled smoke five minutes later."
Firefighters say due to the size of the house, the fire got out of control pretty quickly. It did significant damage to the roof. More than three dozen firefighters responded. Some of them actually stayed on the scene into the early morning hours Wednesday to make sure hot spots didn't flare up again.
