Pop star Jackson loved Disney World
If you lived in the Orlando area during the 1980's there was a good chance you might have run into Michael Jackson.
The pop star spent a lot of time at Disney. He was seen at the Magic Kingdom with child actor Mccauley Culkin. Orlando Sentinel Music Critic Jim Abbott worked as a boat pilot at the theme park in those years. "He was kind of like this weird eccentric uncle who would come into town unexpectedly at different points."
Jackson had a suite in the Royal Plaza hotel at Lake Buena Vista and would bring his pet chimp Bubbles who one hotel manager says flushed the toilet because he liked to hear it gurgle.
Starting in 1986, Jackson starred in the "Captain EO" video at Epcot. The George Lucas of Starwars fame 3-D film cost $30-million dollars, a record at the time. The attraction included lasers, and smoke effects. It closed in 1994 but ran for years more at other Disney theme parks.
