See what it's all about.

Representative Scott Plakon from Altamonte Springs sent us his press release on the Healthcare Freedom Act. The legislation will be introduced in the next session, and they hope to send it to the voters in the 2010 general election.

Representative Scott Plakon - Florida House of Representatives, District 37

PLAKON AND BAKER FILE FLORIDA HEALTH CARE FREEDOM ACT

State Representative Scott Plakon (R-Longwood) and State Senator Carey Baker (R-Eustis) filed legislation yesterday to preserve the freedom of Floridians to make their own health care decisions. House Joint Resolution 37 and the Senate companion amends Florida's Constitution to prohibit any law or rule from forcing people into a one size fits all, federally mandated health care system such as the proposals being considered by Congress.

"The federal government and its bureaucracies dictating who, when and what kind of treatment you receive is not reform at all," said Representative Plakon. "Senator Baker and I feel it is our duty to step up and reassert the rights of Floridians, in this case protecting our citizens' rights and freedoms to make appropriate decisions as it relates to their own health care. We believe this unprecedented power-grab by President Obama and Congress is clearly not in the best interests of the citizens of Florida"

"Today, we're drawing the line in the sand. The goal of any health care reform should be giving individuals greater access to health care - not socialization of health care in America," said Senator Baker. "Under the health care proposal being considered by Congress, the federal government will not only choose your doctor and ration your treatment, but also penalize people that want to pay for their own lawful health care services. That's just wrong."

Plakon added historical context to this important legislation, pointing out that in 1787 Dr. Benjamin Rush, America's foremost respected physician of his time, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and a delegate to the Constitutional Convention, worked diligently to have the protection of "medical freedom" as a key addition to the US Constitution. Dr. Rush warned that medicine could become "an undercover dictatorship and force people who wish doctors and treatment of their own choice to submit to only what the dictating outfit offers."

Plakon and Baker agreed that America's health care system provides the most advanced health care opportunities in the world and that the fear of the federal government rationing care is a very real consequence of the legislation Congress is currently considering. Both said that efforts to improve health care access and affordability are important, but that the starting point in those efforts must start with protecting people's freedom in choosing doctors, treatments and insurance options.

To amend Florida's Constitution, the Florida House and Senate must pass the referendum language in next year's legislative session with a super majority (3/5) voting in favor. Then the measure goes before the voters in the 2010 November general election and must pass with at least 60% voting in favor.

It really does not matter to me whether they pass this "Socialized" health care reform or not, I will not be participating period...regardless of the consequences to me personally. If it is passed, I will immediately change my W-4 forms to exempt and they (the feds) will get...zip,zilch, nada from me. Put me in jail....I don't care...I am practicing "civil disobedience" from this point on...I am turning in my driver's license and severing all ties with both the state and federal government on any law or legislation that is Un-Constitutional. This is all about control and money and I for one, refuse to play the game anymore.I am taking back my "Rights" as guaranteed by the founding documents and will submit no more to the tyranny of our supposed leaders....I would rather die as a free man than to live as a slave. I am opting out! They say there is safety in numbers, but someone must start somewhere....I am starting here and now...anyone care to join?or are we all talk and no action? I have made my choice, have you made yours?

If by stand together, you mean shout downs to stop the conversation of the healthcare debate at town hall meetings, well no, I do not think that type of behavior endears them to anyone. Especially when the organizations that are telling them where to go and what to do and say are Republicans political operatives, not real grassroots, as you try to imply. How does shouting someone down or chasing out (lynch mob) advanced the debate, it does not. So I think the American people will see through this all an know, like the teabagger, the birthers, these lynch mobs types are just the same, people who have to resort to these tactics because they have no leadership to articulate what they real want. It’s easy to pickup a bus load of people who hate, and that’s all I been seeing, they hate and can’t debate. Too bad.

We first heard from the birthers, with their fake “birth certificate” in hand and with their fake outrage. These are the same under tones that you saw from Republicans during the confirmation hearings for Sonia Sotomayor, "you are not like us" or "you are too different", “you are not main stream”. And then they act surprised when people do not vote with them, they are lost, no core beliefs, too bad.

In my opinion the Republican Party has been taken over the most extreme religious right (people who love to push their beliefs on others while at the same time trying to take away their rights) and that’s who they need to focus on if they real want to win. Good Luck, because as they said in WACO, “We Ain’t Coming Out”.

It’s funny we hear Republicans say that they do not want “faceless bureaucrats” making medical decisions but they have no problem with “private sector” “faceless bureaucrats” daily declining medical coverage and financially ruining good hard working people. And who says that the “private sector” is always right, do we forget failures like Long-Term Capital, WorldCom, Global Crossing, Enron, Tyco, AIG and Lehman Brothers. Of course the federal government will destroy heathcare by getting involved, Oh but wait our military men and women and the Senate and Congress get the best heathcare in the world, and oh, that’s right, its run by our federal government. I can understand why some may think that the federal government will fail, if you look at the past eight years as a current history, with failures like the financial meltdown, Katrina, and the Walter Reed Scandal but the facts is they can and if we support them they will succeed.
  • Kudos Patty!!!
I hear ya!!! This health care Obama is pushing is total BS! It's time for us to fight back.
  • Obama's Socialized Health Care
Are we all in the twilight zone? We need to stand together as Americans to stop this take over of are health care...but it will be more than our health care, there is a deep dark reason for this administration to push this overhaul of health care! There is no health care crisis, we all know this but Obama is trying to convince America that there is a crisis! I read some of the pages in this Health Care Bill and it is scary!
I'm a 63 year old great grandmom and the thought that if something happened to me and I needed surgery or any other treatment because of my age it wouldn't happen-I'd be sent home with a pain pill!
I want to know, why is the media giving a slanted coverage on this matter? They will be affected by Obama's Socialize Health Care too.
We are not an angry mob but concerned people that do not agree with this goverment and there are so many more out there that you haven't heard from yet!
