Rabbi says Nazi imagery has place in health care debate
Nazi imagery has shown up on signs protesting health care reform. WDBOs Zack Stein asked a Central Florida Rabbi how he felt about Nazis being brought into the health care debate.
Rabbi Gary Perras from Temple Israel in Winter Springs says he has a lot of concerns about the end of life care counseling being pushed in the health care reform bill. He feels it's a path toward euthanasia of senior citizens. And that's why the Nazi symbolism being used by protesters doesn't offend him so much"Hitler began his career with eliminating people by euthanizing people who were retarded," Perras said. "And the argument was that if these people were not retarded, and saw the condition they were in, they would want to be put to sleep."
Rabbi Perras says the shock value may keep lawmakers away from what he views to be threatening policies.
"If we fall into that line I would have no problem using that image," he said.

- HealthcareWhat is Jamie DuPree reading and reporting on if it isn't the healthcare bill?
- I LOVE IT. The picture in this article is worth 1,000,000 words. I love how people are comming out in droves to protest the Healthcare reform but not a single one of them has read this bill...How do I know they haven't read the bill? It's not PUBLIC! I wonder if these people were forced to read the bill or be quiet how many would actually read it?
I have kids and insurance. I don't know if I am for or against this bill. I am 100% for healthcare reform, but not sure if this currect proposal is the best choice....I HAVEN'T READ IT. I would like the option to read the bill.
