"Operation Hot Date," conducted by the Polk County Sheriff's Office lured 28 women to an undisclosed location for a meeting during which they had agreed to perform a sex act.

Instead, undercover detectives were waiting to arrest them.

The detectives had email contact or phone conversations with the women who advertised themselves on the popular online classifieds website, craigslist.

Sheriff Grady Judd said the operation from September 10-12 proved "that craigslist is still a one-stop shop for all your prostitution needs."

Four men, apparently their pimps, were arrested. Two Orlando men were also taken in custody on other charges after they showed up looking for one of the women.

Sheriff Judd said the women drove from Tampa, Riverview, Clearwater, Wesley Chapel, Holiday, West Palm, Ormond Beach, Lakeland, Lake Mary, Poinciana and Orlando.

Most of the woman negotiated prices from $250 to $400 for sex. One of them, Lindsay Buddenbaum of Orlando sought $800. She was out on bond from Orange County for prostitution, according to the arrest report.

Detectives also report that Tammy Hurtt of Poinciana was dropped off by her husband and 19-year-old daughter to give a massage and provide a dance. She had negotiated a $175 fee for sex.

What others are saying

  • Police can't pick and choose
Prostitution is a crime. The Police aren't allowed to pick which crimes to enforce. Two thumbs up for them!
  • WHATS THE DIFFERENCE
If I sit in a bar drop 50 for drinks ,Take her home ,spend the night. Or Just Bypass it all give her 50 for the deed ?
  • Man it wouldn't be so bad if you didn't have dem ho's that rip people off. That's whats messin the game up !
  • Cops can't chase real criminals- too scared!
I have had a lot of dealings with cops and I know how they operate, especially in Ocoee. They should get a real job.
  • meth
How about chasing down meth labs instead? These women weren't even walking the streets.
  • rediculous
This is a victimless crime and if a guy needs something he cant get on his own but can find in a small business arrangement then why mess with them? When times are hard we turn to whatever resource we can find as women and I see no shame in such a thing. JUST BE CAREFUL and never ever DISCUSS fees for sex!
  • season of pleasure
Thank you Polk County Sheriff's Dept. for "teaching" the rest of us a often forgotten, hard to learn, and much needed lesson on illegitimate pleasures and behavior.
    Pete
  • Exactly how many tax dollars were wasted on this while real crime is going on?
