Judge: Rifqa Bary stays with foster family for now

A judge Monday afternoon denied a motion filed by her parents to move the case back to Ohio.
The courtroom was packed with people from various church groups. Many clutched their bibles as they watched the hearing unfold on TVs in an overflow courtroom.
Their main concern was that Rifqa Bary be allowed to worship as she pleases.
"We don't know her personally, but we do know that she loves Jesus," said 20-year-old Christian Roman.
He came with the Orlando House of Prayer, a church Bary attended Monday morning.
The judge ordered Bary to stay in Orlando in foster care. But she won't be allowed to speak with the family who fist took her in when she ran away from Ohio. That's because Orlando pastors Blake and Beverly Lorenz are the subject of a criminal complaint, according to the lawyer for Rifqa Bary's parents.
The judge ordered them and their adult children who were in the home with Bary to stay away from her until he looks into the issue.
The judge stalled the case, saying he needed to speak with the Ohio judge to clear up jurisdiction and other legal issues.
For now, it remains a dependency case in Orlando with a pretrial hearing set for October 13th.
What others are saying
- Rifqa Bary and civilizationDear American Friends:
I'm glad to hear that sanity prevailed for this hearing on the security of Rifqa Bary. Here in Canada we have a law that prohibits the uttering of death threats. I imagine that the same law exists in America. The report that there was a website against her, with signed killers on it, is a most serious criminal concern for all civilized people every where. It is shocking to me that there is a posturing by her own culture to maintain some kind of honor, by revenging the choice that she made on her own, to believe in a gracious and loving understanding of a truly just God. Rifqa Bary has my admiration, and I stand by her. Those against her are betraying their own captivity to a fearful and unjust system. It seems to me that our Western liberalism has indeed begun to backfire, as we struggle to understand why this bazaar development unfolds in our own hemisphere, and we do not really do not know how to face it. I am regretful for our culture, in our misuse of the words "freedom" and "independence". I am convinced that we will learn to value the responsibilities we have treated so carelessly in our generation. I am a baby boomer who plans to never retire, and will be standing with every young person who is as courageous as Rifqa Bary. As far as tolerating the legal actions (paid for by who, I ask?) against the good folks who harbored her for her safety,...
Take a good look at our civilization folks, you may soon have to find the remnants of that within the confines of your own heart.
I there are North Americans who do not like my standing for Rifqa, you can easily look me up in Didsbury, Aberta, Canada, or call me at 403-998-4429.
Fred Van Vliet - Rifqa BaryGood to hear the judge in Florida has the common good sense to keep the girl away from the extremist Muslims she has left. Finally someone in America is standing up to these murderous fanatics i.e. thugs. Dont shed any crocodile tears for her parents, after all at 17 most kids are ready to get out of the house. At least for now, she wont be the victim of another honor killing at the hand of our wayward governments.
