New UCF tailgating policies steam donors
You won't be allowed early on campus Saturday.
You can't get on campus until 8 for afternoon games, noon if the games starts after 6. Wes Halliwell takes nearly 2 hours to set up> he arrives in a decked out van with tents, grills, TV's and more.
"Everyone is outraged because it's totally changed. They had built really an awesome environment for family, for people to come out and enjoy a day out there."
UCF's grant Heston admitted to me, security cost money, and the school is not flush.
"When we're talking about budget cuts at the University, the cost reduction was a factor in that."
Halliwell and others just shake their head and ask, why didn't you tell the boosters?
"Come out and say 'we're broke', and you might raise more funds for the school."
Donors feel like they're being punished for a few drunks that don't show up until the afternoon anyway.. Several, including Halliwell tell me they're considering bailing on the booster club and the football program if it isn't changed back next season. The school waited until after the season ticket renewal to enact this new policy, and admitted it was an oversight and mistake to do it that way.

- Roll with the BlowI agree with U Can't have Fun's comments. I'm a little bummed myself and it was a shady move. I'm going to shoot for 11:30 tomorrow. By reading The Future and talking to campus staff. It sounds like we can show up and reserve our spot but no set up. I'm rolling with the blow now and we'll see how it goes tomorrow. Can't wait to see you all there and cheering on our Knights.
- No money?UCF is reporting record numbers of new students and attendance. More new students equals more revenue so what's with the budget cuts and fat trimming? As a student attending UCF, I'm continually disappointed with this school. Unfortunately, it is the only school my employer will pay for me to attend.
- UCF = U Can't have FunAfter roughly 20 years and thousands and thousands of dollars, I bailed on the UCF program early this year because they did not can Tim Salem, who as Offensive Coordinator, had the worst offense in Division 1 ball. When I heard about the new "behavior modification" tailgate rules my decision to bail was reinforced. Not everyone out there drinks alcohol and not everyone there drinking alcohol drinks to excess. It seems to me that UCF can't police itself.....so their answer is to make the "problem" go away by limiting the hours the "problem" may be present on campus. Boo. Hiss. Yuo'd think UCF would be doing all they could to have as many on campus for as long as they could be there in an effort to build support.
- stupidityI love how educators and politicians at all levels are so financially inept; one reason why they teach and don't work for more money it the real world, because they can't hack it! Didn't UCF spend so much money on landscaping? Educators are quick to cut jobs of teachers, while administrators don't lower their own pay or benefits or slim down their ranks. Teaching should be the focus, not inane rule after rule after rule because they mishandled funds.
