Will anyone step up to take on Alan Grayson?

The election is still 14 months away, but several Republicans are thinking about a run.

No big names have stepped up to say they'll take on Orlando's Congressman. WDBO's Mike Synan found one potential challenger. It sure sounds like State Rep Steve Precourt from South Orange wants in.

((Mike)):"Are you running for Congress?"
((Steve Precourt)): "Not yet!"

Why not yet? He's waiting on former State Senator Dan Webster to decide first, telling me he believes Webster will get in and he would support that run. No word from Webster or Mayor Rich Crotty if they're in. Grayson wonders why all the fuss?

"People get overwhelmingly preoccupied with an election that are 14 months away. They're not doing enough to basically solve the problems that are out there."

Grayson told me quote: "I don't care who I beat". John Mica and Suzanne Kosmas have drawn challengers too. Mica will face Democrat Heather Beaven. Kosmas has drawn several challengers. See the list of them here. Not on that list of people who have officially filed are the two who are considered favorites by pollsters and party leadership: Winter Park Commissioner Karen Diebel, and State Rep Sandy Adams of Oviedo.

Several candidates that are not well known have filed to challenge Grayson. They are also listed at same link where you can find the challengers for Suzanne Kosmas.

What others are saying

  • Precourt
Precourt has too many bones in his closet to go big time.AG will be prepared.
  • Grayson
This is a typical Democrat way of doing politics. Accuse the opposition of the things you are guilty of. There are many examples. Number one-Accuse the Republicans of taking your Social Security while the Democrats taxed it.
  • Precourt has no $
This is a federal run that takes alot of $4,800 checks to win. We need a self-funder that can beat Grayson in the General. Anyone know a self-funder that might want to spare a million.
  • ACORN's pimp will lose
ACORN's congressman will lose, and lose big when Nov 2010 rolls around. Sure, Grayson will put some more of his money in the race, but it won't help. He didn't win in '08, the other guy lost. No worries though, Grayson can just go out and find another 90% Stock Loan scam once he's a private citizen again...
  • Grayson
Fortunately, I don't live in Grayson's district. Unfortunately, I like in Kosmas' district...... Grayson the rude whack job, and Kosmas the Pelosi water carrier..... we are doomed......
  • I Disagree with Grayson
I DO care who he beats...i hope it's a nice, high profile figurehead of the local GOP establishment. Someone who will go down hard and ugly and bring maximum damage and discredit to the party. Crotty or Webster seem the two names that might possibly crack a one-in-ten voter recognition around here. Any odds on what percentage of District 8 voters know the name "Steve Precourt"?

I hope he beats one of these two--preferably Crotty--like a dirty rug. Speaking figuratively, I hope he beats ol Boss Crotty like Brooks beat Sumner on the floor of our own US Senate in 1856 (in the process inspiring the naming by paleo-wingnut elites of our own Brooksville, FL...true story).

Yeah. So I'm pulling for the red team to put up an actual candidate. If they don't, that's valuable too: it sends a message to the Rahm Emanuels of the party of the "left" (sic) that a progressive Sunbelt candidate can in fact run as a member of the "democratic wing of the Democratic party" and run the purplish table so effectively that the local opposition won't so much as rise to the challenge of seriously contesting a first-time incumbent.
  • Grayson
The self-acclaimed congressman from ACORN,Al Grayson funded 70% of his previous campaign. And, he is quite busy campaigning today! But the more he speaks, the more people are horrified by his arrogant, condescending nature!
His PR person would be wise in telling Al to shut up! His latest claim that the Stimulus bill saved the American ppl from cannibalism just goes to show what strange fellow we have up there in DC!
  • Grayson
It doesn't matter how much money you have the people vote not the money. Unless he pays for votes.
  • Grayson
No one wants to take on Grayson because he can lay $2.5 million on the table again! What's Precourt going to offer...his paltry $100k? Besides, Alan Grayson is the first person to really put his shoulder into HR 1207 and give it a chance to pass!
