Army to again search school grounds built on bombing range
They said it was safe, but now the Army Corps of Engineers will return an Orange County School built on an old bombing range to search for more burred bombs and munitions.
About 900 students from Odyssey Middle School are moving over to the new Lake Nona Middle, ending the need for about 15 portables."Now it is time to consider making sure the grounds are safe for staff and students once those portables are removed," said Dylan Thomas with Orange County Schools.
The Army Corps of Engineers was never able to scan under those portables with their equipment.
"We are having them come back now so that we can make sure that the exposed ground after the portables are removed are as safe as can be," he said.
The search is expected to happen over the winter break.
