Cops drag accused kidnapper out of Maitland backyard
The man accused of snatching a 3-year-old boy from Florida Hospital Altamonte was dragged kicking and screaming out of a backyard in Maitland Tuesday morning.

Authorities caught 31-year-old Vincent Marchese on Derbyshire Road after using helicopters and dogs to track him down. As he was pulled out of the backyard, he told WDBO he did not kidnap the child, and the mother knew he had him.
"I didn't kidnap anyone, I love that little boy, man," Marchese screamed. "They let the dog attack me, look at my hands, look at my neck!"

Marchese claims he was hiding because cops were "out to get" him. He also claimed he is the boyfriend of the child's mother, Brittany Higgs.
Investigators had been searching for Marchese since 3-year-old Alex Higgs disappeared from the hospital around 3:30 p.m. Monday. Shortly after 8 p.m. they found a minivan he was driving behind a business at 17-92 and S.R. 436.

Authorities say Marchese then used his van to ram a patrol car and drive three miles away to the Maitland neighborhood where he crashed his vehicle onto the front-yard of a home and ran away.
A search turned up nothing last night, but the break may have come this morning when a woman stumbled upon Marchese in her garage.
"I went into my garage this morning to get some dinner out of a freezer out there and I saw what appeared to be a body lying on one side of the garage," the woman told WDBO. "So I ran into the house and called police.
"The garage was locked all night. What happened was I got in from work late, and I parked my car in the garage last night and he must have gotten in while I was unloading the car."
The Altamonte Springs Police Department says Marchese will be charged with interfering with parental custody and face more charges for fleeing and eluding and aggravated assault for his encounter with Seminole County deputies.
The boy is back home with his mother and is said to be doing fine.
What others are saying
- Unfortunatley Mr. Marchese was not charged for anything to do with little Alex, Nothing at all. We need to take a better look into our justice system because they are going to ruin our future. If anyone only knew the real story, they would be completely shocked. Mr. Marchese is not the sweet heart he tried to make himself look like. Why would a mother who knew where her son was be frantic after 10 min of them being gone, and he was gone for 7 hours total.... makes no sense!
