Orange County School Board picks new chair tonight - for last time
Orange County School Board members will elect their new chair and vice-chair tonight - for the last time.
Starting next year, the school district will have an elected chair - a new, eighth member of the board that will serve a four year term.Voters approved the measure last year. The school board fought that issue tooth and nail, but eventually gave up when the courts ruled an elected chair is legal.
Joie Cadle is the current board chair, and says it's been an amazing, if exhausting ride - noting that last year's budget woes are still here, and that the stimulus won't save the district forever.
"The problem is the news is not any better out of Tallahassee, and the stimulus money disappears in two years," She said.
The Orange County School Board meets tonight at 5:30.
