Amway Center taking shape, inside and out
Orlando Magic Chief Operating Officer Alex Martins is heading up design and construction of the 875,000 square foot arena along I-4 in downtown Orlando.
"It's definitely a labor of love building that building because it's something that this community is going to be recognized for for decades to come," Martins said to orlandomagic.com.The $380 million project is on schedule for an opening in October.
In February, air conditioning and heating units will be installed and once the humidity is removed from the building, then interior design work can commence.
The team is planning a month-long opening ceremony in October, when the facility is unveiled to the public.
The Magic will begin play in the arena in the 2010-2011 season. Plans are underway to land the NBA All Star game soon afterwards.

What others are saying
- AmwayAmway should have built it with their own money then.
- Naming of the new ArenaAmway I believe is paying a large amount of money to have their name on the builing - just like most of the other arenas in this country do.
- AmwayThe tax payers pay for this building and they stick the Amway name on it. Not too happy with that.
