Is it sexual addiction or just an excuse to cheat?
After making a public apology on Friday, Tiger Woods slipped out of the spotlight again and returned to his rehab for sexual addiction.

But is that a real condition or just an excuse?
John Wagoner is a psychotherapist in Winter Park who's been in private practice since 1994. A lot of his clients suffer from sexual addiction, and he describes the problem this way.
"When there's compulsive behavior either through sexual fantasy or through real people that affects a person's marriage, or family, or health or work," said Wagoner.
He stresses that the label is not one you attach easily.
"If a person has an affair, they're probably not a sex addict," said Wagoner. "When a person has multiple, compulsive affairs, then we would have to look at that. Is that possible?"
He says Tiger seems to fit the bill of someone suffering from sexual addiction, but not everyone is convinced.
"Give me a bucket so I can puke because I don't buy it," said one outspoken woman from Leesburg. "I think Elin should kick him to the curb. She's lucky if she doesn't get an STD from him. I think he's a bum."
Another woman says she sees a double standard in all this.
"He's just a narcissistic celebrity," she said. "If a woman had done this, she would never had heard the end of it. She would never have been able to plead that she was a sex addict, and if she had been a mother, she would have been raked over the coals."
Wagoner says women can be sex addicts, but the condition is very rare.
He says he's seeing the problem more and more among men in his practice, and he cites the availability of porn as a factor.
"It used to be where you had to walk into an adult bookstore," said Wagoner. "Now it's real easy to look at porn on the video or on the Internet."
He says a lot of men find themselves becoming addicted to watching the images, and that can make their spouses feel betrayed.
Wagoner says men with sexual addiction can recover, but it takes extensive counseling. He adds that even then there's usually a setback or two along the way.
What others are saying
- addiction my aunt Sally!Addiction bleeds into every aspect of your life, including your work. If he was an addict, he would do it anywhere, everywhere and wouldn't be able to help himself. He is a classic narcissist. And narcissistic personality disorder is a condition in which people choose their actions. Tiger used his fame and profession to get girls. Therefore, he is what is termed a malignant narcissist. It was all fo the attention -- the high he got from feeling like "a man.'' All because he feels so bad about himself that he doesn't know how to behave otherwise. So, addiction, no. NPD, absolutely!
- Tiger Liar, Pants on FirePuh-lease. Addiction? Does anyone honestly believe that? This guy is a louse. He is a stupid jock. He is immoral. He has no religion. He has no culture. He has no soul. He is typical of so many "great athletes" we've seen. He wants to have sex with as many white women as possible. What can I tell you -- that's the truth, as plainly as it can be stated. Want to deny it? Go ahead and keep living in your land of fairytales, liberals and political correctness. I feel terrible for Elin, but hopefully her example will serve notice for other young women and save them from the same fate. If you have a daughter, please don't hide them from the harsh realities of this world, of various peoples and of the lies being perpetrated by popular culture. You might just be saving their lives.
- yeah rightThere's no such thing in the sense of how Tiger's affairs came down. There is an official disorder (I forgot the name), and it is AWFULLY DEBILITATING. You get the arousals and all you want is relief...doesn't matter if there's a partner there or not. And most importantly, it is AWFULLY AWKWARD...there's no "hey, I need to see you right now" and you wait at some plush hotel (or wherever the encounter is), it is literally like when a dog just walks up next to you and starts humping your leg, type of analogy. You'd be in the bus, just minding your own business, and all of the sudden it is an urge that you simply well...try to ravage whatever's in front of you, inanimate or human...or you simply take care of it as quietly as possible trying not to squirm too much, or whatever. You don't "choose" when/where you want to be horny and then just come out and say "I'm sorry, I'm an addict."
On the opposite end of this argument, let's take on female celebrities: some even have had their own tapes leaked to the net...none ever have had such a microscopic detail on them. Not even Paris. But let Tiger Woods and John Edwards wag the tail and OH MY GOD, THE HORROR!!!! - TigerI like how all these girls are going on tv saying oh I thought I was the only one.Well let's see he was married for starters. And Gloria Alread needs to quit. They look like complete idiots. They need there head examined as much as he does for fooling with him to begin with.Hope his wife doesn't get any diseases. She is the only one I feel sorry for.
- Addiction, BaloneyIf the Gay community is not considered being addicted to the same sex, why should Tiger Woods be considered addicted? The Psychotheripest are only looking for another label to pin on people so the people will condiser treatment.
