Casey Anthony turns 24, may get a present from the courts
Casey Anthony is celebrating another birthday behind bars. The accused child killer turns 24 today and could find out if she'll be able to receive taxpayer money for her defense.

Court documents also reveal that Casey has made some friends in jail, even though she's not supposed to have contact with other inmates.
She apparently wrote about 50 letters to another woman who was being held in protective custody at the Orange County Jail, and prosecutors have those now. Investigators say they don't contain a confession, but they do include relevant information.
Jose Baez wouldn't discuss the letters after Thursday's hearing to determine if Casey is indigent.
"I'm not going to comment on any of that until the court has an opportunity to hear any arguments," said Baez. "That is an issue that the court hasn't heard, and we're going to let the court hear things first and then we'll take it from there."
Casey's legal team has 15 days to review the letters before they're released to the public.
Judge Stan Strickland is expected to rule Friday on whether or not Casey is indigent and eligible for public funds to cover the costs of her defense. But he raised some major questions about the matter during the hearing.
"If they were given x-amount in the past, and that's not well accounted for, why would I want to entrust them with the public's money?" Strickland asked.
Baez testified that Casey is broke.
"You have any reason to believe that Casey Anthony, having been in jail for the last 20 consecutive months, has any money anywhere?" asked J. Cheney Mason, the newest member of Casey's legal team.
"Absolutely not," said Baez. "I don't anticipate any. I'm certainly not aware of any money."
Baez was forced to admit that the team had received $200,000 from ABC News for photos and videos, $70,000 from a former attorney on the case and 5,000 from an anonymous donor. He told the court that all of that money was gone.
But that wasn't enough information for Strickland. He's requiring Baez to provide a detailed account of how the money was spent before he makes a decision.
What others are saying
- just like her motherin this case you do not know who is worst Cindy or Casey, I just hate to see this comedy going around, why do we have to pay for this looser?? we have kids that are been abused, they really need our attention.
- Tax payers paying for Casey AnthonyI am I white woman but,I bet if this were a black man or a black woman sitting in jail for this same crime.They would be waiting for the public defenders office.It just seems like she wants all this special treatment...I think she should get no more special treatment than anyone else.I think this whole situation sucks.This is just setting a bad example for these physcopaths to think once again they are entitled. Meanwhile this new attorney will retire and make megabucks on the book he writes.Here is a list of a physcopath.Just about everyone fits Casey! Common characteristics of those with psychopathy are:
* Grandiose sense of self-worth
* Superficial charm
* Criminal versatility
* Reckless disregard for the safety of self or others
* Impulse control problems
* Irresponsibility
* Inability to tolerate boredom
* Pathological narcissism
* Pathological lying
* Shallow affect
* Deceitfulness/manipulativeness
* Aggressive or violent tendencies, repeated physical fights or assaults on others
* Lack of empathy
* Lack of remorse, indifferent to or rationalizes having hurt or mistreated others
* A sense of extreme entitlement
* Lack of or diminished levels of anxiety/nervousness and other emotions
* Promiscuous sexual behavior, sexually deviant lifestyle
* Poor judgment, failure to learn from experience
* Lack of personal insight
* Failure to follow any life plan
* Abuse of drugs including alcohol
I think Casey fits every single one.She has never acted like a distress over the loss of her child.It was all about her from day one.She makes me sick.Why doesn't she do a cameo for more money.Perhaps she could talk by phone with her lawyer and make her own money.No, she just wants to keep on taking like she has done her whole life. - Where's the money ?She's gotten $275,000 and they are only admitting to spending $111,955 ? Where's the remaining $163,045 ? Did she pay federal and state income taxes on this "income" ?
- jose, you've got some splaining to do
- Casey AnthonyCasey seems to be "losing it" after 20 months in jail. She does not "react" at all to discussions about Caylee; she "laughs" and makes faces in court. This trial will cost the taxpayers of Florida a fortune-Baez should inform his client to show respect in the courtroom and to inform his client she is being charged with the murder of her own child
- welfareIf the taxpayers will have to pay for this scum I will quit my job...as I have no intention of contributing to this woman!
