Mayor Crotty touts possible connection between high-speed rail and SunRail

The $223 million light rail project would connect high speed rail passengers from the Orlando International Airport and Orange County Convention Center to a SunRail stop at Sand Lake Rd.
"The best news of all is this is a privately funded project with no tax dollars contemplated," mayor Crotty said Monday as he introduced the plan to the media.
The Florida EMMI company says they'd finance the project by selling $178 million in bonds and using $50 million in equity.
The proposed route would run along the S.R. 528 right of way, travel at a top speed of 45 mph and cost about $12 to ride.
CEO Tony Morris said Monday that their bid assumes EMMI would get the land to build on for free.
That would require the approval of local governments and the Florida Department of Transportation.
What others are saying
- $12.00 to ride are you kidding$12.00 to ride you must be joking and the land for free. Orlando is crazy, the tolls are out of control and $12.00 to ride this thing they are beyond insane. Somebody needs to go to Miami and ride the Metro Rail for an entire day and it will not cost you $5.00. Nobody will ride this thing after the 1st week of the hoopla if it is built.
- train solutionHere is a solution scrap the money pitthis thing just keeps getting more expensive
