New tropical waves form
The National Hurricane Center says one of the waves has just moved off the coast of Africa but shows no signs of strengthening at this time. However, forecasters say the wave could interact with a small area of disturbed weather about 700 miles southwest of the Cape Verde Islands over the next few days. There is the possibility, they say, of tropical cyclone formation.A second tropical wave is over the southeastern Caribbean off the coast of South America. Forecasters say it is producing showers and thunderstorms and there is a 10 percent chance it could strengthen in the next 48 hours as it moves to the west at 10 to 20 mph.
