The state attorney's office filed formal charges against Casey Anthony on Wednesday.

Neglect of a child, a 3rd-degree felony, carries the harshest punishment - a maximum of five years prison.

The other lesser charge, giving a false report to law enforcement, is a misdemeanor and carries a maximum one year sentence.

The state attorney's office says Casey will have an arraignment within 21 days where she'll have to enter a plea.

Then, if she doesn't waive her right to a speedy trail, the case would have to begin within 180 days of her initial arrest which happened on July 16th.

If she does waive her right it could take anywhere from eight months to two years to begin the trial.
