According to Yahoo! News, the Florida chapter of the NAACP is urging the national board to encourage black people not to visit or move to Florida due to the policies and actions of Republican Governor Ron DeSantis.
Yvette Lewis, the president of the NAACP Hillsborough County Branch, who heads the state’s largest NAACP chapter, presented the travel advisory to the NAACP Florida State Conference in late March, and it was unanimously approved.
The NAACP’s national board will review the advisory next month. Lewis stated to Yahoo! News that, “This man is working to remove the word ‘diversity’ altogether... And this isn’t just a black person’s issue, it’s an everyone issue.”
She added that the advisory was necessary because the situation had gone too far, and they needed to take a strong stand in response to the extremist Republicans gaining more power despite encouraging more people to vote.
