Gynecologist to press charges against man who attacked him at conference

A doctor who was attacked while speaking at a medical conference last month intends to pursue criminal charges against his attacker.

The incident took place on May 20 at a panel discussion of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in Baltimore, Maryland. In the viral video, gynecologist William Burke is seen approached at the podium by an irate audience member, claiming that Burke sexually assaulted his wife seven years ago. The man proceeds to grab Burke by the shirt and slap him across the face.

Burke, who works as the director of gynecologic oncology at the Stony Brook University Cancer Center in New York, denied the man’s claims. The physician further stated that he does not know who the attacker is, and would not confirm whether or not he knew his wife.
