Apopka police officer run over by accused shoplifter

A suspected shoplifter is in jail, accused of running over an Apopka police officer as she fled.

Investigators tell News 96.5 it happened in the parking lot of the Marshall's on State Road 436.  Cpl. Kenny Kaiser responded to the scene after a loss prevention officer from the store reported seeing Berinthia Williams, 29, leaving with stolen goods.

Kaiser caught up with Berinthia in the parking lot.  That's where investigators say she hit the officer with her vehicle.

A few minutes later, about two miles away, Williams was involved in a three car crash.

Witnesses tell News 96.5 that pursuing officers stunned Williams with a taser as she tried to run away.

Both Kaiser and Williams went to the hospital.  Kaiser is back home recovering.  Williams is at the Orange County Jail.

She's facing multiple charges including attempted homicide, aggravated fleeing and felony retail theft.

Williams' long arrest history includes grand theft, assault with a motor vehicle, and fleeing and eluding officers, a charge for which she served two months in jail last year.
