Apopka Police searching for gunman who fired at officer's patrol car

Apopka police are searching for the person they said used a high-powered assault rifle to shoot up a patrol car.

The officer was not injured but his squad car is riddled with bullet holes.

Police said the officer walked into the 7-Eleven on east Semoran Boulevard around 4 a.m. and when he walked out, his car had been shot at multiple times.

Police set up a perimeter in the area and the road was shut down in both directions for several hours as police searched for the gunman.

Authorities believe the officer may have foiled a potential robbery.

No one was injured.
