Casselberry leaders may move fire department, police station

Casselberry leaders may move the police department and Fire Station 25 to the AMF Bowling Alley, which recently closed.

Some residents said they’re concerned about putting a fire station there because it backs up into their neighborhood and the sirens may be too noisy.

City leaders claim the property could improve response times because the station is currently boxed in by the new Red Bug Lake flyover.

“I think the noise would take away from the effects of the fast time,” said resident Adina DeRemer.

On Monday night, city commissioners approved a plan to allow officials to inspect the $900,000 property.

The city manager said the bowling alley property is not far from police station’s current location, and it would be a more central spot.

Despite the noise, resident Michelle Demetreshon said it would be nice to have help a block away.

The neighborhood is technically in the county’s fire jurisdiction, but the county would dispatch whoever is closer.

The city also owns property on the other side of the alley, so if the locations get approved later this year, the entire city property would encompass five acres.
