Chick-fil-A's 'free food for a year' offer has people furious

Free food from Chick-fil-A sounds pretty good to most fans of the restaurant. But to others, this offer has got them furious and they're venting online.

In honor of their new Manhattan location, the chicken chain is giving 100 people free food for a year. In order to win, 100 people have to sleep on the corner of 37th Street and 6th Avenue in Midtown Manhattan until the grand opening on October 3 at 6 a.m., reports Yahoo Finance.

The catch is that you have to meet two criteria: 1. You must have a government-issued ID and  2. Live within an eligible zip code --which means you need to have an address with a zip code. If you read between the lines, that basically means that anyone who is homeless or sleeping in the streets involuntarily can't win.

Commenters on Jezebel had some strong opinions about the contest, calling it 'humiliating' and that Chick-Fil-A is being 'insensitive.'

"Aren’t they supposed to be Christians? Perhaps they could give free food for a year to 100 homeless New Yorkers instead of 100 New Yorkers who have an address and enough free time/ability to afford childcare to spend the night sitting on a sidewalk?" one commenter said.

So far Chick-fil-A has not commented.
