Construction accelerates at Daytona Speedway

Daytona International Speedway

Fans attending the Daytona 500 and Budweiser Speedweeks events will see a lot more steel at the racetrack in February.

Construction of a new frontstretch grandstand is moving forward at a quick pace.

Daytona International Speedway officials said they are, at the same time, preparing for the 52nd Aniversary of the Rolex 24 at Daytona and Speedweeks to make sure the facility is "race ready" for fans.

In November, workers installed steel near the east end of the grandstand footprint, completed a pile cap installation, laid domestic water and fire lines and began paving asphalt near of the west end of the new grandstand.

This month, they will continue to erect the steel and pour the first elevated concrete slab and do other masonry work.
