Dragon Challenge closing to make room for ‘Harry Potter’ roller coaster at Universal Orlando

Dragon Challenge Originally named Dueling Dragons in 1999, Dragon Challenge was renovated with The Wizarding World of Harry Potter grand opening on Jun. 18, 2010. The coaster had reached its service life and was demolished for the new attraction, Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure.

ORLANDO, FLORIDA — The Wizarding World of Harry Potter roller coaster is coming to Universal’s Islands of Adventure.

The "Harry Potter" ride will replace Dragon Challenge, which has been at Universal since 1999.

Universal said the ride will redefine the category and transport park-goers to thrilling places and adventures within the wizarding world. Universal said it will be the perfect addition to Hogsmeade.

Dragon Challenge will close September 5, and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is set to open in 2019, officials said.
