ORLANDO, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol is sharing details of a major drug seizure made this week in Orlando.
It happened Tuesday night on Orange Avenue near the Orlando International Airport. Lt. Kim Montes tells News 96.5 WDBO a trooper spotted a U-Haul truck swerving and decided to follow the vehicle until it went up on a curb as a fire truck drove by in the opposite direction.
The trooper conducted a traffic stop and asked the driver for the rental agreement for the truck. When the driver could not produce a rental agreement, the trooper requested backup with a K-9.
That’s when Montes says Piet went into action, alerting troopers to drugs inside the truck.
“The driver stated that they were hauling finger nail tips for a salon and because the dog alerted, they opened up the back of the U-Haul,” said Montes.
Inside dozens of boxes, troopers found 624 lbs. of marijuana in vacuum sealed packages.
Montes says the drugs were worth roughly $5.6 million.
Troopers arrested Tam H Dinh and Huong Tranh Le on multiple charges including felony marijuana trafficking.
