Flooding reported in Volusia County homes

A stalled front to our north with moisture surging in from the southwest is a recipe for flooding rains.

Heavy rains started just in time for the afternoon drive in many central Florida areas on Tuesday.

Storms trained or tracked over the same area, one after another, according to Severe Weather Center 9 meteorologist George Waldenberger.

More than 5 inches of rainfall totals was reported near Edgewater in Volusia County and Lake Jesup Woods in Seminole County, with over 4 inches in Longwood.

Flood warnings were issued for the Orlando metro, extending into Seminole and southern Volusia counties

There were numerous reports of streets were under as much as a foot of water.

New Smyrna Beach Fire officials said water has entered at least 20 homes. They said a number of streets are flooded.

Officials have opened a shelter for those who have been forced from their homes. The shelter is at the Atlantic Coast Church at 1212 Conrad Drive.
