Orlando, Fla. — Former astronaut and Florida Senator Bill Nelson, is expected to be named the next NASA Administrator, according to multiple reports.
The long time Orlando resident went to space in 1986 onboard Space Shuttle Columbia.
Florida Democrats said Nelson, who represented Brevard County in the Florida House before becoming a U.S. Senator, is a logical fit for the space agency position.
Previous NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine recently resigned after Joe Biden was sworn in as President.
The possible selection of Nelson, which was first reported by The Washington Post, would need to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
Our news partner WFTV Channel 9 has reached out to Nelson for comment, but have not yet heard back.
