Jacksonville police investigating gunfire striking Jefferson Davis Middle School

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating reports of gunfire striking Jefferson Davis Middle School.

Police believe the shooting occured 750 ft away from the school and a stray bullet struck a window. There were reports of several students having minor injuries from the glass.

"I was pretty calm, but the rest of the kids were like screaming," a seventh-grader told our partner Action News Jax.  "They wouldn't tell us anything.  They just told us to get down on the ground."

Lock downs at Jefferson Davis Middle and Oak Hill Elementary School were lifted in time for normal dismissal.  JSO has no suspect or suspect description at this time.
