Jury finds Brevard County woman guilty of first-degree murder

A jury has returned a guilty verdict in the murder trial of a Brevard County woman who was charged with killing a woman she thought was having a relationship with her estranged husband.

The verdict was handed down shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday. Sheila Graham-Trott was found guilty of premeditated first-degree murder after jurors deliberated for less than one day.

Prosecutors said Graham-Trott believed Kelly Brennan was romantically involved with her estranged husband, former Indialantic Mayor Daniel Trott.

Jurors heard closing arguments from both sides Tuesday morning.

"Ladies and gentlemen the decision you need to speak is that Sheila Graham-Trott is not guilty," said defense attorney Michael Pirolo.

"Find her guilty of first-degree murder of Kelly Brennan," said prosecutor Samantha Barett.

Barett said Graham-Trott was getting divorced from her husband and killed Brennan because of the affair she believed was going on.

"She was angry and she was jealous. She was blaming Ms. Brennan for all the things going wrong with her divorce," said Barett.

Pirolo said prosecutors failed to prove the murder theory and pointed a finger at Brennan's husband, Gino Rallo, because he found out about the relationship before the murder.

"Mr. Rallo got a quarter of a million dollars and the entire house to himself when Mrs. Brennan died," said Pirolo.

Graham-Trott is expected to have a sentencing hearing in the near future.
