Kissimmee police chief resigns

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -Kissimmee police Chief Lee Massie is resigning from the force, Channel 9 found out Thursday.

A spokesperson for the department said Massie met with staff Thursday afternoon and gave a state of the department update, where he announced his resignation.

In an email to the department, he said, "This was an extremely difficult decision but one that was made based on personal matters, primarily maintaining the focus of ‘family first.’ I would like to express my thanks and appreciation to each and every one of you for having allowed me the opportunity to serve alongside some of the most professional and committed individuals I have ever met."

Massie’s resignation will go into effect August 9.

Channel 9 reported in May that three Kissimmee officers were charged after investigations into their alleged misconduct during a drug arrest.

Also in May, a Kissimmee officer was arrested for allegedly engaging in sexual misconduct with a woman he arrested in February.
