BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Janet Petro has served as Director of NASA’s Kennedy Space Center since June of 2021.

Now, the Trump Administration has named Petro the acting NASA Administrator.
Dr. Ken Kremer with Space UpClose told us, “Usually they pick someone, the number three person who’s at the headquarters. So that would have been somebody else.”
President Trump has chosen private astronaut and tech billionaire Jared Isaacman as his permanent pick for the next NASA Administrator.

His U.S. Senate confirmation could take weeks or even months.
During President Trump’s first term as President, his administration set the lofty goal of returning astronauts to the moon by 2024.
The earliest that would happen now is 2027.

But the president who also created the Space Force, revealed interplanetary ambitions during his inaugural address on Monday.
President Trump said, “We will pursue our manifest destiny into the stars, launching American astronauts to plant the Stars and Stripes on the planet Mars. And it’s the lifeblood of a great nation. And, right now, our nation is more ambitious than any other. There’s no nation like our nation. Americans are explorers, builders, innovators, entrepreneurs, and pioneers.”
