A 50-year-old man from the cruise ship Norwegian Dawn was medically evacuated by Coast Guard helicopter rescue crews 160 nautical miles south of Nantucket, Mass., Wednesday.

Air rescue crews from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod successfully hoisted the man into their MH-60 Jayhawk Helicopter and transported him to Hyannis Airport.

Local EMS further transported the man to Cape Cod Hospital.

"It has been a busy night but we got him on the helicopter safely and on his way for medical treatment," said Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael Heximer, the aviation survival technician aboard the helicopter.

The man was believed to be suffering from a ruptured spleen due to a kayak accident two days ago while on a port call in Bermuda.
