The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that two adults were killed when a tornado hit a home in Duette at about 4 a.m. Sunday.
Another adult and three children in the home were hospitalized, authorities said.
Their conditions were not immediately available.
The tornado was part of a series of storms that swept through Central Florida early Sunday.
Sarasota County officials also reported damage to multiple homes near Siesta Key. At least one home was destroyed and a woman had to be pulled from the wreckage by first responders.
Other damage reports in connection with the storm include roofs being blown off homes.
Damage from the storm system left thousands of Duke Energy customers without power Sunday. Pinellas County was the hardest hit, with 72 reported outages affecting more than 3,000 customers.
The company estimated power would be restored to all customers by about 4 p.m.
Nearly 2,000 customers were without power in Orange County and 1,500 in Osceola County, Duke Energy reported. Power was expected to be restored before noon in both counties.
