The Central Florida Expressway Authority has now opened section 2 of the Wekiva Parkway, which is part of the I-4 Ultimate Project.
On Saturday at 9 a.m., a large crowd gathered for the ribbon cutting ceremony, which was held at the Secion 2B Interchange at Plymouth Sorrento Road and Haas-Ondich Road.
The new section includes a first time expressway connection to State Road 46. It also gives drivers the option to access SR 46 near Sand Lake road in Sorrento or take the 46 east of Camp Challenge Road.
This is the first expressway in Central Florida to utilize all electronic tolls, which can be paid by transponder or by license plate.
This opening is the halfway point of having the 25 mile parkway open, which upon completion in 2021, will connect to State Road 417 in Sanford.
