The “cone of uncertainty” will have a new look this year.
The National Hurricane Center changed the forcast tool with the hope it will give people more information about a storm’s potential path of destruction.
The NHC tells us it’s the first revamp of the well-known map in more than a decade,
You will see clearer fonts and softer colors, but more importantly, it adds a feature that shows the extent of hurricane- and tropical storm-force winds.
The wind field appears on the map as a yellow circle outlining where damaging winds may occur outside of the cone center.
Forceasters hope this effort will remind the public that damaging winds can occur outside of the cones lines.
