Ocoee, Fla. — Shoppers at the Fountains West Publix in Ocoee can now choose to go-it-alone at the checkout.
The four new self checkout lanes may come to a surprise to many Floridians who know the Lakeland based grocery store for it customer service.
But, there are actually about a dozen of the chains 800 stores that feature the do-it-yourself option.
Most are in Tennessee and Georgia, but there are also locations in Tallahassee and Gainesville.
A corporate spokesperson told CBS news in 2004 that if there was a demand for self checkouts they would consider the option.
The grocer said the new lanes would not replace staff or cut their hours.
