Orlando airport trains getting replaced

Automated People Mover at Orlando Intl Airport

Those train cars that shuttle people from the main terminal to the gates at Orlando International Airport are coming off the tracks, being replaced by new cars as part of the airport's $3.1 billion Capital Improvement Program.

Cranes started lifting the cars off the tracks on Wednesday.

The airport cautioned passengers that there could be delays, so to arrive earlier than usual to reach the gates on time.

A single train will operate during the renovation, but buses could be used on a standby basis.

The automated people movers have been running at Orlando's airport since 1981 and were refurbished once in 1999.

They have traveled a combined 1.2 million miles, according to airport officials.
